Thought I would take some photos today before the snow disappears. This year's skiers included Pete MacLoghlin, Barry Diceman, Peter Hamley, Keith Buchanan, Arndt Kruger, George Post, Frank Marett, & Ken Featherstone

Tuesday Jan 5 2016 - 1st ski

Cycling was the order of the day until our 1st snowfall Dec 29 2015. Pete MacLoghlin, Peter Hamley, Barry Diceman, Keith Buchanan & Arndt Kruger met at 10:00 on a cold but sunny winter day -15C. We skied the Tanney loop, the only trails that are snow covered, & the temperature did climb to -7C by the end of our 11 km ski. The ski conditions are good considering the lack of snow but rain is in the forecast for the weekend so we may have to get out the bikes again! I sent this rhyme to Bob & his mates in Florida
                    Greetings from snowy old PeterPatch
Where the weather allows us to match
Either skis in the snow or bikes on the road
So we have a choice between these 2 modes!
Peter Hamley took this photo outside the Tanney cabin with his phone as my camera had frozen!
meanwhile the Pennys are soaking up the Florida rays!

I cycled to a downtown meeting on Wednesday Jan 6!

Spring skiing - 2015

Barry Diceman, Peter Hamley, & Pete MacLoghln skied in ideal conditions on Tuesday March 24 in what may be our last day of skiing this season. The trails had been groomed, snow cover was still good & the sun was shining, just a perfect day to end the skiing for this year. The temperature was -10 C at the start & climbed to -1 C by the end so the snow cover stayed dry. We skied up Trillium to Tanney Cabin then after feeding the chickade continued north to PL, across to Owl down to Kawartha, then across Wolf to Trillium skied to Beaver returning to the Woodfine chalet. Barry & Peter did ski again on Tuesday March 31 while Pete was downhill skiing at Calabogie Peaks. The club closed for the season April 2

2015 skiing photos

This year we did not start to ski until early January but once the club opened the skiing has been spectacular. The really cold weather preserved the snow cover because we did not have a big snowfall. George Post took these photos

Skiing Tuesday Jan 20 2015

Barry Diceman, Peter Hamley & Pete MacLoghlin skied the 11 km Tanney loop today (only open trails). It was a cool -22 C when we left the Woodfine Chalet, however there was no wind & the sun shone brightly over a clear blue sky so did not feel the cold. We were a bit concerned about the trail conditions as it had rained on Sunday & have not had a significant snowfall so were amazed to find the trails in such good shape. The entire loop had been groomed, there were a few stretches where because of lack of snow the groomer had not been able to set a track mainly on Trillium between Red Fox thru the wood glade to the open area past Adam Scott. The northern loop from Wolf to Kenner & down Kawartha from the Tanney cabin to Wolf & back to Trillium was superb, with good snow cover & fast, the skis glided forever on any downhill sections. Peter Hamley took this photo of Pete & Barry at the junction of Wolf & Trillium to show the conditions
After our ski enjoyed lunch at Honeys. Left click to enlarge the photos

Skiing Tuesday Jan 13 2015

Barry Diceman & Pete MacLoghlin skiied the 11 km Tanney loop today. Conditions were ideal, trails are groomed & track set with a good base of fresh powder snow so the skis were gliding beautifully. The temperature was -22C but it did not feel cold. There was no wind & the sun was shining brightly just a perfect day with snow on the tree branches as a background to set a winter scene
